September
Here is a little update as to what has been keeping me from uploading on Sundays lol. Hope you enjoy this little blurb:)
Hello blog, it's been a while. I apologize for being so MIA this month has been quite the blur. The D1 Sorority Girl lifestyle is no joke. You can laugh, please do actually I find it funny too. I am the VP of Member Education for my sorority and it is a lot of work. I planned Bid Day tirelessly since May and all through this past summer. I had one more hurdle before the big day though: recruitment. Recruitment is a lot. By the end of the weekend I was brain dead, nursing a pounding headache and trying not to vomit after saying the word sisterhood 800 times. Don’t get me wrong, love my little cult but wow. After enduring that weekend I feel like I can do anything haha. 9/4/23 was Bid Day; my superbowl; my Christmas morning. I was so so excited but so so nervous. The anticipation that had been building for months finally bubbled over during set up for the event but hey it was bound to happen. I needed a moment and kept the tears to a minimum so I wouldn’t look red and puffy in photos lol. That day was beyond overstimulating but so rewarding. I got 146 new mems (eyes are so wide looking at that number) and I have to learn all of their names! 146 little sisters that I get to raise (terrifying.)
Other than those main events, life is good:) I am playing guitar a lot which has been such a game changer this year. Not having my guitar last year didn’t seem like it was that bad until I went home for summer break and realized how miserable I was without it. I need my creative outlets (like this blog) in order to stay sane and I can definitely say they do the job! Still mastering Dear John right now but hopefully if I am brave enough I will play it on Tik Tok or something soon. Speaking of Tik Tok, a dance video I posted like a month ago has over 230,000 views….like hello?! So random but feeling like an influencer ngl. I just went to the Goodwill bins with my friend Carlie on Saturday and this trip was long overdue. I would go to the bins no joke weekly over summer and I was craving a thrift fix badly. I found some great pieces; a few for friends away at school that I am excited to mail. One activity I want to start doing again is writing postcards to my friends while we are at school. I have a big box full of them, each one with a unique drawing or watercolor by local artists. Getting physical mail is one of my favorite things. It feels so thoughtful and you know the sender took time to address and drop it off rather than texting you. Sooo to my friends reading, expect some extra love coming your way soon! Ok switching gears so random but growing up my sister and I got pink electric Barbie guitars for Christmas one year. There is an iconic photo of us playing them in our PJ’s at the top of the stairs. Each button on the neck of the guitar would make different sounds and one played “Beautiful Soul” by Jesse McCartney. That song just came on (I normally have airpods in when I write the more stream of consciousness entries) and I feel so nostalgic right now. Such a good song please go give it a listen. Bye the next song playing is Let Me Know by Brent Faiyaz ok vibe switch.
I know the goal of this blog is to Help A Girl Out but not every entry is going to be super helpful lol. I hope that this level of openness and casual conversation alone allows you to think about something other than school, work, etc. I sadly do not always have a motivational story or inspiring fragment of wisdom but I do talk a lot so why not write it down:) I cannot wait to see what the rest of this month has in store for me. I have a lot of fun events/travels in the near future so stay tuned for that. Also, the New Jersey Devils just signed Keith Kincaid which is so awesome; we were in need of another goalie and now we have one so lets gooo. I am a huge New Jersey Devils Hockey fan, not sure if that is common knowledge here on the blog but it is now. Preseason starts on the 25th and I am counting down:) This sorority girl may not watch a lot of sports but hockey I can get behind. ALSO, my sister is at school with me this year!! She is a freshman here at SDSU and it has been such a fun change having her here:) Her dorm stories and other drama is beyond entertaining and makes me feel like a washed up junior but kind of in the best way. I do not miss the communal bathrooms or tiny shoe box rooms. Even though it has only been a month I have already seen growth in Delaney and I am grateful to be a part of her college experience. Delaney if you are reading this please go to class and get some sleep, bestie. Okay that is all for now. This entry was all over the place yet kind of organized which is exactly how I would describe my brain’s current state. There is no fun without a little chaos so I guess I should embrace the anxiety a bit more:) Okay xoxo as always andddd HAGOOO.
