EAST COAST SUMMER GUIDE

BY: KATIE BLAIS

Hello! This week I have a special guest taking over the blog:) While I have not known Katie long, she has quickly become family (my lovely little in DG) and encourages me to express my creativity unapologetically. Today you get to spend a summer day with Katie in her home state Rhode Island. I hope you enjoy this virtual adventure and inspires you to craft one of your own. Follow @thelooksdsu and @remember.me.radio to see more of Katie’s passions come to life!

Hi HAGO fam! My name is Katie Blais and I am so excited to be writing an entry for Help A Girl Out! I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Olivia this past semester through DG spring recruitment and instantly knew that she was an incredibly special soul. Her immediate kindness made me feel so welcomed and we soon began to bond over our love of writing and all things creative, making this entry such a full circle moment! What makes this even more special is Olivia also happens to be my amazing big!

A little bit about me: I’m a rising Junior at SDSU studying Journalism with a minor in Interdisciplinary Studies! I am always in constant search for new creative outlets and hobbies, with my most recent being writing for The Look Magazine, starting a radio show, buying a pickleball set, and attempting to learn how to line dance. I love to be outside and am always down to go on a run or take a spontaneous camping trip!

As a Rhode Islander and East Coast girl at heart, I thought it would be fun to take HAGO’s loyal readers on a trip across the country, diving into the ultimate guide for a quintessential East Coast Summer in the country’s smallest state! I hope you all enjoy and feel inspired to unleash your inner coastal grandmas!

First Stop

Before we hit the beach, coffee and a breakfast sandwich from The Nitro Bar is essential to starting the day off on the right track. If the name sounds familiar, it may just be because their videos of beautiful strawberry matchas and earth day latte’s have come across your FYP. With almost 300K followers on TikTok, the quaint coffee chain has put Rhode Island on the map. One thing about me is I will never say no to a sweet treat and usually have multiple a day!

ONWARD

With coffee in hand and the windows down, it’s time to take a drive to the beautiful Beavertail State Park. Just a short hike away, your own personal beach awaits you, making you feel like you've been transported to a tropical island. Beavertail is one of my favorite places to visit in the summer to escape reality and reconnect with nature and with myself.

LET’S EXERCISE

After a relaxing beach trip, goat yoga at Simmons Farm is an essential when visiting Rhode Island for the summer. If you know me, then you know I absolutely love goats and paired with yoga outside during a summer sunset will forever be one of my favorite activities. I also love how out of pocket the concept is and makes for a great story and even better memories with your friends. PSA to my goat yoga newbies, make sure to wear your hair up as the goats love to munch on your hair <3

day to night

If you think the day is coming to a close, think again because we’re headed to Newport for dinner, window shopping, and good vibes. Arguably my favorite town in Rhode Island, Newport exudes New England charm with its cobblestone streets and fashionable visitors. Unleash your favorite summer flowy dresses or linen pants for a fun night along the water.

SWEET TREAT O’CLOCK

Taking it back to my hometown in Northern Rhode Island, we’ll end our perfect day at my childhood staple; Josie’s Ice Cream! With Rhode Island only being 45 minutes from top to bottom, it’s easy to explore the state, one sweet treat at a time!

If this day in the life has piqued your interest, there’s so much more to explore in this fun-sized state! I had so much fun writing about the place I call home and I hope that wherever you are this summer, may it be filled with lots of fun, sun, and sweet treats!

Bye for now HAGO fam!

Love, Katie
